Fireworks Kyaking Our evening will start before the sun goes down with a basic kayaking lesson where we will focus on safety and paddling technique. We will explore the waters of Mission Bay, San Diego as the stars and moon help light our way. Then we will watch the spectacular Sea World Fireworks Show from our kayaks. While paddling back after the fireworks display, we may be treated to views of sea lions, shore birds and other wildlife. Trip includes transportation, kayaking equipment, lessons and leaders. 3:00pm Group meets at Outdoor Excursions Building leaders meet group,go over trip plan,issue gear, load van. 3:30pm Group leaves UCR 4:40pm Arrive at Mission bay park in San Diego 5:00pm Unload stretch out and get ready, Start dry land lessons 5:45pm Hit the water 6:00pm Start paddle around Vacation Island 8:30pm Arrive in front of Sea World getin a good position to watch the fireworks 9:50pm Fireworks Start 10:00pm Fireworks end 10:15pm Back to van, pack up, group leaves Mission Bay Park, back to UCR 11:30pm Arrive at UCR, debrief group, retrieve gear 12:00am Break up

Mission Bay Park is right off I-5 at Clairemont Drive, a 10-minute drive from downtown San Diego and Mission Valley. From Mission Valley, take I-8 west to I-5 north. From downtown, just get on I-5 north.

What to bring:
Come dressed to get wet (swimsuits or other appropriate clothing)
Try to avoid cotton - it gets very cold when wet, even on warm days
Polypropylene or Capilene or fleece is best for colder weather, with paddling jackets or light windbreaker over that
P.F.D. (Personal Floatation Device)
Wetsuit (Farmer John) may be required.
Wetsuit Booties or thin soled, flexible tennis shoes should be worn for paddling. Teva’s or other sandals are also acceptable for this use. No flip flops. Paddle Jacket 2-3 water bottles (32 oz. each)

This “introduction to kayaking” trip will teach you the basic paddle strokes and boating safety as we explore shallow caves and sea life near San Diego. After a seaside lunch and a quick ground lesson we will head out for a 2 hour tour of the coastal area. This is a great area to be introduced to the challenge of sea kayaking. The trip price includes transportation, kayaks, personal outfitting and instruction. La Jolla is a unique and beautiful treasure in southern California and a prefect place to take a beginner group of sea kayakers. Not only does it have natural beauty but it also protected as an ecological reserve. It is very well protected by life guards and they are on patrol trough out the day. Trip Itinerary 6:30am Group leaders arrive pre-pare for group 7:00am Group leaves UCR 8:15am Group arrive at La Jolla 8:45am Begin paddle basics and boat training 9:30am Move out and explore La Jolla caves 12:00pm Break for lunch 2:30pm Off the water and pack up gear 3:00pm Begin drive back to UCR 4:00pm Arrive at UCR, Group breaks up Parking A 350 space parking lot (8 disabled spaces) can be found at the foot of Calle Frescota next to the lifeguard tower. In summer, this lot fills to capacity by mid-day. Limited on street parking may be available.

over 75 people requires a permit from the Park and Recreation Department. Trip Details:
Silverwood Lake is one of the hidden jewels of the San Bernardino Mountains. Nestled in the San Bernardino National Forest and bordered by the Pacific Crest Trail and the High Desert, the lake provides thirteen miles of shoreline, coves and beaches for us to discover. We meet at the SRFC at noon to load up the kayaks and head up the Cajon Pass to Highway 138 and the recreation area. We spend the afternoon with paddle in exploring the lake under the autumn colored ridgelines. After watching the sunset from our kayaks, we’ll head back to campus, stopping along the way for dinner. Prices: $25 Students and SRFC Members, $30 Faculty and Staff, $35 Alumni, $40 Community Members. Participants are responsible for dinner Friday night
