Climbing Competition

Climbing Competition

There will be a free top rope climbing competition at WROLC this year. Space is limited so sign up early. There will be a max of 24 climbers and this will be split up between male and female. We will have a cut off time for the female climbers to get in. After the time we select males can take up more spaces. Females are still allowed to sign up until all spaces are full. Which will allow additional male climbers to feel in the space.

There will be approximately 15-20 routes in different ranges of difficulty. Each climber can only climb 10 routes to be calculated to there score. Each route will be given a score value. If a climber completes the route on their first try then bonus points will be given for a flash. If a climber falls then he/she will have to start over from the start. If a climber puts too much weight on the rope it is also considered a fall and must start over. The belayer will be the judge for excessive weight on the rope. Each fall will lower the overall route value. Scorecards will be given to each climber to keep track of their route information. Each attempt can only last 2 minutes from the point that both feet leave the ground. Stopwatches will be at each rope.

For example: You find a route with a point value of 1000pts. On your first attempt you complete it. A bonus will be given to you (about 100pts). You now move on to the next route valuing 1500pts. You fall on your first and second, but completed it on your third. You would receive about 1400pts because of your fall costing you about 100pts. So the points would be +100 on first try, even score on second, and -100 on third try. If you do not complete the route your tried you will still receive % of the total score.

Volunteers are needed to help with belaying and keeping score as well as controlling the stopwatches. If you or a friend wants to help but not compete this is a great opportunity. Belayers will need to meet for a pre-comp briefing to go over a belay check and the comp rules. This will be just before the comp.
